The Law of Attraction

Exposing Myths and Unmasking Its True Power

The Law of Attraction is one of the most alluring yet misunderstood principles of the Universe. It is often taught as if you can simply think positively, visualize what you want, and wait for it to appear. But if that were true, we would all be living our dream lives.

The reality is far more nuanced—and far more powerful.

A fundamental part of the human experience is that we are constantly needing or wanting something. When we get what we want and need—when we want and need it—it feels amazing. But when our needs and desires go unfulfilled, it can be incredibly painful.

Yet this experience of deprivation is universal. For this reason, there are so many teachings on faith, manifestation, and the Law of Attraction. But like everything else in life, a lack of true understanding of how and why something works prevents us from experiencing its true power and benefits.

In this article, I would like to clarify a few things—without which true understanding will continue to evade the masses.

First, the Law of Attraction is, in fact, a law or principle that governs both the earthly and spiritual realms. It is not a physical law per se, like those posited by Isaac Newton. It is a spiritual law that permeates and connects both realms.

It has been identified in some way by many religious and spiritual ideologies: the Law of Sowing and Reaping in Judeo-Christian theology, karma in Buddhism and Hinduism traditions, and the Law of Attraction in New Age or metaphysical teachings. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to hear it simply called “manifesting.”

The term manifesting is misleading, as manifestation is only the final stage of the Law of Attraction. Arriving at that coveted stage requires the successful fulfillment of the stages that precede it.

Thus, an integrative approach is the best way to understanding the Law of Attraction. It involves the energies of the spiritual realm, the power of the human mind and faculties, and the use of human will and choice — all of which culminate in a force that literally brings a change in the physical world of matter (i.e., manifestation).

Though manifestation is the end goal, it is actually the most effortless part. In fact, it is the part of the process where we have the least control, as it is more a byproduct of moving organically through all the stages.

So let me name the stages:

Number One: Desire/Need

This is the stage where you become aware of a need or desire. A desire is something you want for yourself that will make your life more fulfilling. It can be connected to a stage of life you have entered, a goal you have set, or something you have long coveted but has evaded you.

A need is something your life requires at this moment to solve a problem—whether financial, relational, or personal. That need represents the solution to that problem.

Unmet needs cause stress and anxiety. Unmet wants create pain, emptiness, and often disillusionment. And let me state emphatically: there is absolutely nothing wrong with having desires or needs. It is part of being human.

In my spiritual journey, this was something I really had to reconcile. I had come to believe that being spiritual meant I had to martyr my personal needs and wants. This causes people a world of unnecessary confusion and guilt. While we do need to align our desires with our authentic higher self, our needs and wants are actually our soul’s compass—one of the powerful ways it communicates and guides us.

Number Two: Faith

This is where someone who believes in the Law of Attraction differs from someone who does not. Believers understand that they have the power to call their needs and desires into existence.

Faith, at the very least, entails a certainty that their desire is:

a) within the realm of possibility, and
b) on its way to them.

Number Three: Align Your Thoughts and Words

People who believe in the Law of Attraction understand that they must begin to think in a positive way—as if they already possess the object of their desire.

Furthermore, they understand that using words and language that correspond to their desire strengthens their ability to attract it. This includes affirmations and declarations.

Number Four: Align Your Emotions

You must also align your emotions with your desire. A key to manifestation is visualizing what it will look and feel like to live your desire.

Furthermore, living consistently in elevated emotional states raises your vibration, which is necessary to open your energy field. In other words, you don’t just think and speak it into existence—you feel it into existence.

This is where most people stop. Very few teachings go into the next step, which is absolutely crucial.

Number Five: Choice

What most people do not understand is that choice comes before the breakthrough—not after. The common misconception is to wait to see a change before making a choice in the direction of the desire. This actually stalls the process. Energy requires movement on your part to fully open. Choice is the greatest act of faith you can take toward your dreams.

What does it mean to make an aligned choice? It means that if you truly believe something is on its way to you, you act like it. You begin taking action steps that lay the groundwork or facilitate its arrival.

Examples:

• A person ready for a partner joins dating platforms and begins engaging.
• Someone seeking a higher-paying job networks, updates their resume, and applies.
• A person wanting financial freedom becomes intentional with spending and educates themselves on money.

These actions are not just “doing something.” They show life—and the Universe—that you are serious.

You may ask, “Isn’t everyone who desires something serious about it?” No. The truth is, we are only serious when we embody (or live) all the stages. Otherwise, we are still expecting to be rescued.

Anyone can receive a blessing, but we must become the person who can sustain it. Without aligned choice and action, it is simply lip service—often masking an unconscious resistance to receiving what we say we want.

A way I apply this in my own life is what I call going fishing. When I have a need or desire, I declare it to God and the Universe—as specifically as I can. How specific I get depends on the desire itself.

Then I go fishing. That is, I take action steps toward that desire: networking, making connections, sharing my desire with others, and exploring available resources. That is how I cast my lines.

It is my job to go fishing. It is God’s job to bring in the specific fish (i.e., the opportunity, person, or experience).

Number Six: Manifestation

There is not much to say about this final stage. This is the celebration. The culmination.

You became ready—and life responded.

It is never about life or God withholding from you. There is no scarcity in the spiritual realm. Our ability to manifest depends on our readiness.

There is one more important distinction: the difference between creating and attracting.

In truth, “creating” is a bit of a misnomer. There is nothing to create. The Universe is already full—overflowing with everything that has ever existed or could exist.

What we actually do is attract. We attract our desires into our energetic field, where we gain access to them.

But attraction is not as simple as thinking or speaking something into existence. Nor is faith alone enough. If it were, we would all have everything we want.

Attraction requires that we become an energetic match for what we desire.

How do we do that? By embodying all of the stages outlined above. By consistently raising our vibration. By engaging in a genuine spiritual journey.

The power of the Law of Attraction is profound—far more than we realize. But it can only be accessed through inner transformation.

We must become people who embody spiritual principles, who cultivate an intimate relationship with the divine. Gradually, over time, we step into its true power.

There is no back door.

From this perspective, the Law of Attraction is not about getting what you want—it is about becoming who you must be to receive it.

Everything already exists.

The question is: are you aligned to meet it?
